Non-Executive Director

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference." (Serenity Prayer)

Have your Board Meetings become too routine? Do they lack creativity and, as a result, fail to generate sufficient new ideas? Does the Board's culture resist change, perhaps because it's too "set in its ways"? Dare we ask the question: do you hold Board Meetings at all? You wouldn't be alone if you answered "no" to this!

One of the problems experienced by smaller companies is that the owner, the entrepreneur, has grown the business from small beginnings, often on his own. Suddenly, he or she realises that they don't have the support of a balanced team of co-directors. Where is the marketing director? Bigger competitors have one, so not having one will presumably lead to competitive disadvantage. Where is the Finance Director? Again, competitive disadvantage will result, bearing in mind that larger players will always have access to the skills, experience and advice of a Finance Director.

A full-time Finance Director would cost you at least £60,000 a year. But, if you're a smaller business, you don't need a full-timer. What you do need, however, is a fraction of one! If one of your major competitors is ten times bigger than you and pays a Finance Director £60,000 a year, that's telling you that you should be paying £6,000 a year. For this, you'd rightly expect to obtain a Finance Director on a part-time basis, someone who can be "on tap" when you need him, maybe attending meetings with your bank, helping you to pitch to new clients or prepare quotes.

If you would like to consider appointing David as your part-time Finance Director, he would like to hear from you. He will attend your Board Meetings on a monthly basis and, as well as bringing his expertise and experience to the table, he will also bring with him the perspective that only an outsider can bring; an independent who is not embroiled in the day-to-day running of the business and can therefore often see things more objectively than the executive directors and managers who work within the business day in, day out.

With his excellent connections, David will strengthen your management team and bring a new dimension to your business. So, whether you want to use him on a permanent basis or simply in the short-term to implement a particular project or facilitate change within the business, call David on 0161 266 1036 or email him directly at david@davidelliottassociates.co.uk
