Bookkeeping
It's the "nuts and bolts" of accounting. And it has to be done right, because if it isn't, your accountant will spend so long trying to sort out the mess your bookkeeper has made that he might as well have done the bookkeeping himself - and that's going to mean you end up paying twice for the same thing! When you take into account the cost of paying an independent bookkeeper, you'll find that it's more cost-effective to let us do the bookkeeping for you, either monthly or quarterly. We can either visit you at your premises or carry out all bookkeeping in our office - the choice is yours. Simply send your documents to us using our Freepost service or email a simple spreadsheet to us and take the stress out of maintaining your accounting records. Three more important points should be made. Firstly, the Companies Act says that the directors of a company are responsible for maintaining proper accounting records; so bookkeeping is important if only for this reason. Secondly, if anything is wrong with your bookkeeping, your VAT returns are likely to be inaccurate too. And thirdly, but very important, by letting us do your bookkeeping, we're getting a continuous insight into your business and its performance. David can be even more proactive in advising you if he's seeing your numbers on a regular basis throughout the year. Some really good reasons here for you to think carefully about who should be carrying out this very important function in your business.
VAT
Are you VAT registered? Should you be? Even if you don't have to be, it might work to your advantage. And which scheme should you be on - the standard accounting scheme, the cash accounting scheme or perhaps the flat rate scheme? From whether you should register to selecting the most advantageous scheme for you, David will advise you. If we carry out bookkeeping for you then we will automatically complete your VAT returns for you too, filing online to obtain additional time for you to pay. And, in the current economic climate, if you are experiencing cash flow difficulties, we will arrange with H M Revenue & Customs on your behalf additional time to pay.
Annual accounts
Whether you are a limited company, sole trader or partnership, we will prepare annual accounts and file them for you with the relevant bodies. If you carry out your own in-house bookkeeping, we will work with you to ensure that the system you use is suitable. We are conversant with all the major accountancy software.
Payroll
This can be a time-consuming and inefficient task for you to carry out in-house. As with the bookkeeping, why not outsource it? Our payroll bureau run by Rachel will computerise your payroll and run it promptly and accurately, either weekly or monthly, for a fraction of what it would cost you to do it. Rachel will file all your year-end returns electronically (P35, P11's, P11D's and P11Db), ensuring that you benefit from the H M Revenue & Customs electronic filing bonus. We can even make payment by BACS to your employees' bank accounts if you so wish. Payroll can be a bit of a minefield in terms of legislation and regulation, and it's vital that your employees are paid correctly. We highly recommend that you allow us to take on this role for you, allowing you to get on with running your business.
Self-Assessment
From advising you proactively on how to mitigate the effects of Income Tax, National Insurance, Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax to preparing annual computations and completing your Self-Assessment Tax Return, you can rest assured that we will deal comprehensively with all aspects of personal tax. David trains accountants in personal tax and is fully up to date with all the latest issues.
Corporation Tax
We will advise you proactively on how to mitigate corporate tax liabilities, carrying out Corporation Tax computations and completing and filing the Company Tax Return. Many new clients complain that their previous accountant did not advise them how to keep their corporate tax liabilities as low as possible, so we aim to put that right when you join us.
Tax investigations
Should you be subject to an inquiry or inspection from H M Revenue & Customs we can manage the whole process for you, promptly and efficiently. We will play an active role in settling disputes and in ensuring that similar problems do not arise in the future. You might like to take a look at our tax investigation insurance service. At just £80 for individuals and £195 for companies it represents excellent value for money (these prices are subject to VAT).
Company formation
We can form a limited company for you, advising on the tax implications for directors and shareholders. We will complete all paperwork in respect of the appointment of directors, company secretary, shareholders and registered office. We can act as your registered office address is you wish. We will register the company with H M Revenue & Customs for Corporation Tax purposes and can set up a PAYE scheme so that you can start paying staff wages and register the company for VAT if you wish.
Incorporation
In the event that you started your business as a sole trader or are in partnership, we suggest that you contact David immediately as it is very likely that there are significant tax savings that you are not currently exploiting. And these can, in many situations, be enormous. David will tell you how much we can save you by incorporating, but this has to be done in the right way in order to maximise the tax benefits. Should you decide that you want to take advantage of the benefits on offer, we'll guide you through the whole process.
