Doing the right things

"It takes less time to do things right than to explain why you did it wrong." (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)

"It is surprising what a man can do when he has to, and how little most men will do when they don't have to." (Walter Linn)

If you've read our start ups page, you'll see how passionate we are about catching entrepreneurs before they launch their new businesses. Have you started a business within the past year or so and not yet appointed an accountant? Or have you appointed one but feel that you have been let down by their lack of action and advice? If either of these situations applies to you, then please take the right action now and come and spend an hour with David for a no-obligation chat.

Perhaps you're beginning to receive correspondence from Companies House or HM Revenue & Customs. You're not one hundred percent sure what to do about them and you're having sleepless nights about them. You keep moving them to the bottom of your in-tray and promising yourself that you'll deal with them tomorrow. And then there are the accounts. Maybe you haven't yet got that bookkeeping system in place yet or learned how to use the accounting software that's still waiting to be installed on your computer! Don't worry; you've been preoccupied with getting your business off the ground and we understand that. But, at the same time, we're not trying to shy away from telling you that you can't bury your head in the sand. Far from it, we're suggesting that you need to get your house in order!

Do you need to be VAT-registered? Would it be advantageous to register voluntarily? And which of the many VAT schemes available would you be better off using? Could you save tax by incorporating your business and obtaining tax relief on the goodwill or, if you already operate as a limited company, could you reduce your tax liability by restructuring the shareholdings? These are just a few of the basic questions that David will address with you during the initial meeting.

It's imperative that you take advice to make absolutely sure not only that you're doing things right, but that you're doing the right things! Inaction and mistakes can be very, very expensive. Call David directly on 0161 266 1036 or email him at david@davidelliottassociates.co.uk to set up your free consultation.
